Reforesting Land & Capturing Carbon
Turning former cattle land into thriving forests.
Our company
Reforestation & Development
Norteak transforms degraded cattle land into productive teak plantations, combining sustainable forestry with long-term carbon removal. Our long-term goal is to cultivate high-quality teak through responsible silviculture. This approach not only yields valuable timber but also supports ecosystem restoration and creates stable economic opportunities for local communities. The company is managed locally in Nicaragua, with majority ownership based in Norway.

Our key pillars

Reforestation & Capturing Carbon
Norteak’s plantations are designed to produce high yields of quality teak, facilitating significant carbon sequestration and supplying building materials with a low carbon footprint. We carefully manage every step—from land selection and plant propagation to plantation management and efficient harvesting practices.

Social Impact in our Communities
Norteak plays a key role in local development and has grown to become the region’s main employer. We promote both personal and social growth for our employees and their families, emphasizing safety, environmental responsibility, and respect. Our work is grounded in ongoing, mostly informal dialogue with all stakeholders.

Fostering Biodiversity
We aim to enhance biodiversity by integrating native tree species alongside teak. Through protected areas and holistic landscape management, we create favorable conditions for wildlife within and around our plantations.
Preserving Ecosystems & Wildlife
Norteak’s forestry model goes beyond planting trees—it restores natural habitats and supports local biodiversity. We designate significant areas as protected zones, monitor wildlife, and enrich ecosystems with native species. By balancing teak production with ecological preservation, we protect endangered species like the spider monkey and safeguard vital watersheds.

Carbon Credits
Purchase Carbon Credits
Norteak promotes carbon capture through reforestation, using carbon credits as a key financing mechanism. To extend the impact beyond our own land, we established the Norteak Group, enabling medium-sized farms to participate in a shared certification scheme.Together with three companies, we’ve certified 29,000 tons of CO₂ removed, registered under VERRA with VCS-CCB certification. We aim to add another 50,000 tons soon.
To purchase carbon credits from the Norteak Group, contact our partner Across Nature. Together, you’ll define the scope of your investment and help drive high-impact carbon removal.
Our Wood
From Seedling To Harvest

Establish & Plant
We begin by selecting land tailored to each species. Our nurseries provide high-quality teak seedlings, which we plant and nurture under optimized conditions, minimizing weeds and pests.

Nurture & Monitor
We control competing vegetation and monitor for disease to improve forest resilience and timber quality. We prune to eliminate lower branches and avoid knots in the wood, and regulate tree density through thinning—allowing top-performing trees to thrive while letting sunlight nourish forest floor vegetation.

Harvest & Replant
Once trees reach maturity, we harvest them under strict sustainability standards and immediately replant, ensuring continuous forest regeneration and carbon storage.
Our Nicaraguan Plantations
Norteak owns 12 farms with nearly 2,000 hectares of plantations. Including our partners in the Norteak Carbon Group, we collectively manage:

Social Impact
Empowering Communities
Improving local quality of life is a core part of our mission. We work with municipal leaders, neighbors, and institutions to align forestry efforts with community needs. We provide stable, year-round jobs, fair wages, and extensive training in safety, technical skills, and leadership.

We also invest in infrastructure—roads, wells, community buildings—and support schools with sustainability education. Norteak champions women’s leadership by promoting female supervisors and ensuring an inclusive workplace.
